Abstract

748,321. Lubricating. SUNDERLAND, H. March 10, 1955 [March 10, 1954], No. 3283/54. Class 12 (3). Apparatus for supplying fresh oil to upright high-speed spindles in textile machinery and for removing old oil therefrom, comprises a cradle 5 provided with a pump 15 having one port connected to a flexible pipe for entry into one or other of oil containers 20, and another port connected by an elbow 21 to a gallery pipe 22 which is provided with branches adapted to be disposed within or above bolsters containing the spindles. If the apparatus is to be used for removing old oil, the branches 23 extend into the bolsters and have relatively restricted nozzles 26. The gallery pipe 22 is tapered at each end so that the suction created by the pump 15 is substantially the same for all branches 23. The pump shown is a manuallyoperated rotary pump, suction or pressure being created in the pipe 19 according to the direction in which the handle 18 is turned. When the apparatus is to be used for supplying fresh oil the gallery pipe 22 is replaced by a pipe, the branches of which are shorter than the branches 23 and are fitted with jets. The branches have each a tapped hole at the top to receive an adjustable grub screw, by means of which the cross-sectional area of the branch can be varied to equalize the rates of flow from the several jets. The cradle 5 is provided with a hooked formation so that it may be engaged detachably with the upstanding flange of the doffing-box rail. The pump instead of being a manually-operated pump may be an electrically-operated pump.
