Abstract

746,897. Commutator for dynamo-electric machines. HOOVER, Ltd. June 15, 1954 [June 18, 1953], No. 17598/54. Class 35. In order to prevent breakage of the end connections between the commutator segments and the rotor windings of a dynamo-electric machine due to whipping or bending of the shaft at high speeds, the commutator is supported at one end only so that a clearance space is provided between the commutator and the shaft. The commutator segments 31 are carried by a metal bush having a body part 27 and an extension 25, the latter being a pressed fit on the shaft 4 as a part where the diameter of the shaft is larger than that of the shaft part under the bush part 27, so that a clearance is provided between the latter and the reduced shaft part. The diameter of the shaft 4 is further increased at 26 so as to provide a shoulder at 26 against which the bush abuts. The segments 31 are held together by V-rings 32, 30, the latter ring being integral with the bush part 27, but both rings may be made separately from the bush. The end connections 37 overlie an insulating ring 39 and are wrapped with strings 40. Specification 724,544 is referred to.
