746,853. Kneading appliances. KLEINLEIN, F. April 29, 1953 [May 5, 1952], No. 11828/53. Class 86. [Also in Group XXX] A kneading machine for treating and conveying plastic masses consists of a plurality of intermeshing worms, located within a casing with which the thread bars of the worms make wiping contact, at least one of each pair of intermeshing worms having a continuous rolling track of a diameter greater than its core diameter and less than the diameter swept by its thread bar and on which track bears the thread bar of the intermeshing worm. In Fig. la a pair of oppositely rotating intermeshing worms 1, 2 within a casing 9 have thread bars 3 and 4 which bear respectively on rolling tracks 6 and 5 on the worms 1 and 2. In a modification, Fig. 3, the thread bars 3, 4 increase in width progressively for part of their length, from opposite ends of the respective worms 1, 2, the remaining parts of the thread bars being undercut to form two narrow threads which define a helical gap the bases 12, 13 of which are formed by the cores of the worms. The thread bars which are not undercut fit between the narrow thread bars of the opposed worm. The thread bars bear on the rolling tracks 5, 6. The core of the worms may consist of a series of alternate conical and cylindrical portions, Fig. 4 (not shown) and Fig. 5. In Fig. 5 the rolling tracks are located between pairs of thread bars 14, 15 and 19, 20 on the conical core portions. Three or more interengaging worms may be provided and the invention can be applied to worms rotating in the same direction.
