Abstract
746,836. Thermal switches; switches, partly electromagnetic. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. March 29, 1954 [March 27, 1953], No. 8462/53. Class 38(5) The adjusting knob 26 of a heat controlled electric iron has a cam surface 30 formed on its lower surface and co-operating with a cam follower 33 acting as a stop for the " fixed " contact 21. The latter comprises a rivet 21 securing a permanent magnet 20 to a blade spring 19 and co-operating with a movable contact 23 securing an armature 22 to a blade spring 18. The latter is actuated through a member 25 by a bimetal strip 24. The follower 33 comprises an internally threaded sleeve 34 accommodating an adjustable screw 35 co-operating with cam surface 30, the lower end of the screw having an insulating cap 36 acting as a stop for the magnet 20. The knob 26 is secured to a pin 28 rotatable in a bearing in a part 11 of the handle 3. A condenser 40 connected across the contacts prevents sparking The magnet acts to hold the contacts together or apart depending upon.the position of bimetal 24. The screw 35 can be factory adjusted through a hole (Fig. 5, not shown) in the knob 26.
