Abstract

745,920. Change-speed gear. FULLER MANUFACTURING CO. March 23 1953, No 7950/53. Addition to 681,759. Class 80(2) Shift in a frictionally synchronized auxiliary direct-reduced gear 11 arranged behind a main gear 10 providing three reduced speeds, direct-drive, overdrive and reverse, is preselected manually at 221 and its establishment is initiated by and during movement of the main gear to neutral. Supply of hydraulic pressure passes to one side or other of a two-position shift cylinder 101 under control of a valve 102, operated by the polarized armature of a solenoid 214 having two windings selectively energized, to determine the direction of movement, through a reversing switch 215, controlled by the pre-selector lever 221 on the main gear-shift lever 22, the solenoid circuit being completed through a series group of switches 216, 216a ... 219, 219a, which are directly opened by the ends of the shift rods 114 of the main gear in gear positions, so that they complete circuit only when all the rods are in neutral. In Fig. 1, circuit is completed to initiate shift in the auxiliary gear immediately a shift-rod 114 of the main gear commences to move towards neutral from a gear position. In Fig. 2, not shown, the switches are opened by cams on the sides of,the shift-rods to permit initiation of shift in the auxiliary gear at any desired point in their travel towards neutral. The shift-circuit is also broken by the usual engine ignition-switch on a vehicle. The ratio of the auxiliary gear covers the range of the whole or a selected part of the ratios of the main gear as in the parent Specification.
