Abstract

745,158. Damp proof courses. SHILLABEER, E. R. April 20, 1954 [April 20, 1953], No. 10768/53. Class 20(4). A damp resistor for cavity walls comprises a preformed metal unit having a horizontal portion 1 for attachment to the upper surface 2 of a door or window frame 3 and an upwardly inclined portion 8 having its free end 9 bearing on the inner surface of the inner skin of the cavity wall. The horizontal portion 1 has conical bosses 12 at intervals which receive wood screws 13 which are embedded in mastic 14 and penetrate into the wood frame 3. The front edge of portion 1 is downturned at 4 and formed with an inclined lip 6 projecting outwardly below the soldier arch 7, the angle rim 7a supporting the latter having weep-holes in its lower edge. The lateral edges of the portion 1 may be downturned. The end 9 may bear on the lintel 10 supporting brickwork 11, and in a modification the inner end of member 8 is extended and bent sharply downwards to form a, vertical limb lying close to the lintel 10.
