Abstract

744,639. Pressure-gauges. KENT, Ltd., G. June 28, 1954 [June 29, 1953], No. 18021/53. Class 106 (2). A float for use in a manometer or other measuring instrument having a liquid column of a cross-section only slightly greater than the cross-section of the float, comprises an upper part 12, Fig. 3, with a well-defined peripheral edge and a lower part 13 lying clear of the edge and providing such buoyancy when submerged so as to ensure that the upper part 12 is lifted clear of the liquid to the extent that its lower peripheral edge only is in the surface of the liquid and is gripped by the meniscus. Preferably the peripheral junction 14 is rounded as shown. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 4 the top surface of the upper part 19 slopes down to the periphery 15 and the surface 18 of the lower part 16 is sloped upwards towards its periphery.
