Abstract
743,191. Raising liquids by gaseous pressure. THACKRAY, Ltd., C. F. Feb. 5, 1954 [Nov. 10, 1952], No. 28246/52. Class 102(2). In apparatus for raising liquids by gaseous pressure, a container 2 is fitted with inlet and outlet valves 5, 6 for the liquid, an inlet valve 14 for the pressure gas, and an exhaust valve 8 which is formed on the stem 7 of a float 10 ; the valve 14 is actuated by a lever 15 which co-operates with a collar 9 on the stem 7. In order to balance the exhaust valve 8, to reduce the force necessary to open it, a rod 25 is attached to a piston 17, loaded by a spring 24, and subjected through pipe 23 to the pressure in the container 2. When the container 2 is being filled, the rod 25 is held in the inoperative position, and when being emptied, the rod 25 abuts the valve 8 and transmits a force according to the gas pressure.
