[Also in Group XL (a)] An electrostatic precipitator with collector electrodes 100, 100<SP>1</SP> between which an alternating field is set up and a discharge electrode 104 which discharges alternately to the two collector electrodes, is supplied, Fig. 5, through transformer 106, rotary switch 116 and condenser 122; or Fig. 6, through transformer 130, rectifiers 132, 134 and condensers 136, 138. Limiting resistances 124, 140 and spark gaps 126 are included. The alternating field between the collector electrodes is successively strong and weak and the discharge electrodes are located in the weak regions.
