Abstract

742,701. Pit props. SCHMIDT, A. March 9, 1951 [May 10, 1950], No. 5723/51. Class 20(2). The telescoping parts 1, 3 of a pit-prop are locked by independent wedges 8, 9 in slots in a prop lock 2 with or without the interposition of a locking element 6 or 7. The keys 6, 7 are of light alloy and are engaged by a galvanised surface on the wedges 8, 9. The inner prop member 1 may be of double H section, Fig. 4, having brake shoes 15, 16 adapted to be gripped between the flanges of the inner member by operation of wedges 8 acting on both sets of flanges by means of keys 6A. In a modification, Fig. 5, (not shown) each wedge 8 and one key operates on one set of flanges only. For in. stantaneous withdrawal of the prop an eccentric may be provided or two wedges connected by a sleeve passing over the tapered ends.
