Class 68(1) One or more jacks are mounted on or adjacent to a digging or lifting implement so as to act directly between the implement or implement - supporting mount and the ground so as to be able to exert an additional upthrust to that exerted by the normal raising means of the implement or the mount. In one embodiment the free ends of the piston rods of hydraulically operated jacks secured to the corners of the base of an excavator bucket act on a groundengaging plate positioned beneath the bucket. In a second embodiment a jack or jacks 25 is or are mounted in each end of an implement-supporting frame 24 pivotally supported about means 59 secured to a frame 18 pivotally mounted at 16 on a yoke 12, 14 or at the end of a pair of arms pivotally mounted on a vehicle. In operation the frame 24 is maintained parallel to the frame 18 by a spring 61 and an arrangement of a valve and passages in the means 59 and the surrounding bush 44 of the frame. This valve arrangement automatically cuts off the supply of liquid to the jack or jacks at the upwardly tilted end of the frame whilst permitting liquid to be supplied to the other jack or jacks. The jacks are mounted for universal pivotal movement in the fram 24 and are biased to an upright position by springs 37.
