Abstract
Detergent compositions are composed of particles each comprising a core of an alkaline detergent and a coating of an organic sulphate or sulphonate wetting agent. Specified alkaline detergents are soda, sodium bicarbonate, sodium tripolyphosphate, tetrasodium pyrophosphate, trisodium phosphate and sodium metasilicate. Specified sulphate or sulphonate wetting agents are lauryl and octadecyl acid sulphates and dodecylbenzene sulphonic acid; such wetting agents may be used in admixture with one another and (or) with sulphuric acid. The compositions may be prepared by spraying the sulphate or sulphonate on to the finely divided alkaline detergent, if desired with the aid of a diluent, which may be water, methyl, ethyl, isopropyl or butyl alcohol, or a glycol such as ethylene glycol or diethylene glycol. Examples are given, and in some of these carboxymethyl cellulose and an oleic acid soap are included in the compositions, being present either in the coating or in the core or in both.
