Abstract
741,358. Supply systems for space discharge apparatus; charging and discharging condensers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Feb. 27, 1952 [Feb. 27, 1951], No. 5157/52. Class 38 (4). An igniter and supply circuit arrangement for a H.P., L.V., gas-filled flash discharge lamp 2 having an external ignition electrode 5 connected to its anode 4 and having photographic applications, comprises a fix condenser of large capacitance connected across a D.C. source and shunted directly by a series circuit comprising a resistor 7 and a second condenser 6 of capacitance small compared with that of condenser 1, and a transformer 8 having its primary winding 9 connected across the second condenser 6 through an on-off control switch 10 and its secondary winding 11 connected in series between the lamp and the first condenser 1; closure of the switch 10, discharge condenser 6 through the transformer primary winding 9 to induce in the secondary winding 11 a voltage pulse which added to the source voltage initiates the arc discharge which is furnished by the condenser 1. The electrode 5 may be a metal wire running along or surrounding the lamp, or a metallized band over the lamp.
