Abstract
740,503. Portable cranes. BROCKHOUSE & CO., Ltd., J. July 7, 1954 [Aug. 27, 1953], No. 23753/53. Class 78 (3). A floor crane for garage use comprises a lifting unit 11 carrying a jib 44 pivoting thereon in a vertical plane, means for raising and lowering the unit on a pillar and means 57, preferably hydraulic, for independently setting the angle of the jib in a vertical plane. The crane base comprises spaced members 1 with wheels 4 at one end and outriggers 2 with wheels 3 at the other end. Spaced channel members 6, 17 at one end of the base support a housing 11 comprising spaced members 12, 13 having rollers 23, 26 running on the members 6, 7. A screwthreaded post 28, supported by brackets 17 on the members 12, 13 is slidable in a bracket 29 bolted to a plate 30 secured to the members 6, 7. A nut 32 on the post 28 has a bevel-wheel 31 engaging a pinion 36 supported on the bracket 29. The pinion is rotated by a handle 42 to raise the housing 11 and jib 44 vertically. The jib is luffed by a hydraulic cylinder unit 57 which pivots on the lower roller axle 24, and on the jib at 60. The cylinder is operated by a pump 61 on the base actuated by a handle 62. The jib comprises two telescopic members 45, 46 which may be locked in position by a hinged locking-piece engaging holes in the two parts.
