Abstract

737,945. Pulse generating circuits. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. April 23, 1954 [May 12, 1953], No. 13291/53. Class 40 (6). In a pulse generator of the type comprising a reciprocally-coupled pair of valves one of which is a pentode and has a reactive pulse generating circuit connected to its anode, the suppressorgrid is caused to follow the potential of its associated cathode during the period when current is flowing and is maintained at a constant potential during the occurrence of a pulse. The Figure shows a pulse generator comprising reciprocally-coupled valves V1 and V2, the former of which is triggered by pulses from a master oscillator MO to cause sudden conductivity in pentode V2, thus shock-exciting inductor L. The first of the resulting burst of oscillations passes to the output, subsequent oscillations being damped out by diode D1. The suppressor grid of pentode V2 is connected to the cathode via diode D2 so that when valve V2 is conducting the suppressor grid potential follows that of the cathode either by charging capacitor K1 through diode D2 or by discharging K1 by the suppressor taking current. When V2 is cut-off the potential on capacitor K1 and thus of the suppressor grid remains substantially constant as K1 can only discharge through resistor R which may be made large.
