737,893. Methods of disinfecting. HEXT, D. F. March 2, 1954 [Dec. 2, 1952], No. 30564/52. Class 81 (1). A method of subjecting articles or materials to disinfection, disinfestation or the like comprises treating them with a vapour of formaldehyde or a compound of formaldehyde and thereafter with ammonia vapour preferably produced by heating a solution of ammonium hydroxide and preferably with a period of ventilation interposed between the treatments. As shown the ammonium hydroxide is heated by a heating element 2 thermostatically controlled and disposed in the bottom of a welded stainless-steel vessel 1 and the vapour led by a stainless-steel tube 3 to a treatment chamber 5.
