Abstract
736,609. Blowpipe burners. MATHEWS, A. J. Nov. 26, 1953 [Dec. 16, 1952], No. 31812/52. Class 75 (1). A nozzle for an oxygen cutting torch comprises a detachable copper or copper-nosed external member 10, a detachable brass insert 20 and a central stud 30, the brass insert 20 fitting on the central stud 30 through the intermediary of a compressible resilient washer 35 allowing relative axial movement of these two parts whilst maintaining a gas-tight joint between them and the external member 10 fitting on the brass insert 20 near their outer ends through coacting frusto-conical surfaces 13, 22, one surface 22 having gas ducts 23. The stud 30 is screwed into the head 40 of the torch and has a central duct 31 conveying oxygen to a central axial duct 21 of upwardly diminishing diameter in the brass insert 20. The washer 35 is located between the inner end of the brass insert 20 and an annular shoulder 34 on the stud 30. The inner end of the external member 10 is held upon a seating 43 on the torch head in gas-tight manner by a nut 42 screwed on to the torch head. The ducts 23 in the frusto-conical surface 22 of the brass insert 20 communicate with a gas chamber 11 formed between the external member 10 and the brass insert 20. In a modified construction the stud member is not screwed into the torch head but has two frustoconical surfaces seating upon corresponding surfaces on the torch head and the inner end of the external member is seated upon an annular flange on the stud member, the assembly being secured in gas-tight manner by a nut engaging the external member and screwed on to the head. The central stud may be made integral with the torch head.
