Abstract

736,492. Automatic voltage control systems. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Feb. 11, 1952 [June 27, 1951], No. 15278/51. Addition to 695,416. Class 38 (4). [Also in Group XL (c)] The drive applied to a variable impedance load from a radio frequency source is maintained constant by rectification to produce a control voltage which is utilized to vary the drive in such a manner as to oppose change in output level. In a transmitter comprising a grid modulated stage 13 driven with R.F. via cascaded stages 3, 7, the stage 7 being a cathode-follower and 5, 10, 14 representing tuned circuits, the voltage across the tuned circuit 10 is rectified by a rectifier 15. The rectified voltage, after optional amplification in an amplifier 16 is applied to the grid of a control valve 18 which, together with a resistance 6 forms a potentiometer supplying H.T. to the amplifier 3. In this way the gain of the stage 3 is varied in such a manner as to maintain the R.F. potential across the circuit 10 constant. Control may alternatively be applied to the grid or cathode of the valve 3, or if this comprises a screen-grid valve, to the screen.
