Abstract
736,324. Spring suspensions; preventing lateral canting; vehicle underframes. ENGLISH RACING AUTOMOBILES, Ltd. Nov. 11, 1953 [Nov. 11, 1952], No. 28376/52. Class 108 (2). A rear suspension structure for a motor car comprises a rigid frame 23, 24, 25 having pivotable mounting devices at opposite ends thereof, disposed in triangular plan relationship, one of the devices, a universal joint 40, being on the plan centre line of the car and the others being spaced one on each side of the centre line, the differential housing 34 of the car being fixed on the chassis 20 and the frame 23, 24, 25 at its front end being mounted on a part fixed relatively to the chassis whereas the rear end of the frame is connected to a De Dion suspension member 14, 15, 16 the outer ends of which are connected to the rear ends of transversely resilient suspension links 18, 19, the front ends of which links are connected to the chassis 20. As shown, the rigid frame is A-shaped in plan and is connected to the housing 34 by a ball-joint 40 and to the De Dion member 14, 15, 16 by rubber bush mountings.
