Class 79(iii) [Also in Group XXXII] In a vehicle having swinging half axles, the differential casing or like axle support, is carried on the vehicle frame by resilient mountings which are disposed in a plane wholly above or wholly below the points of attachment of the half axles. With such an arrangement, lateral thrusts received by the differential casing or the like from the half shafts due to road shocks are absorbed by the resilient mountings permitting the casing to turn slightly about a longitudinal axis. Such axis is preferably arranged to rise towards the rear, and provision may be made for damping out vibrations of the differential casing about such axis. As shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the differential casing 13 is mounted on two front rubber mountings 22 and a rear rubber mounting 23 on brackets 27 and a frame cross-member 21. Four mountings may be used. The mountings are disposed in a plane A-A which rises rearwardly, and side thrusts on the differential housing cause it to rotate about a longitudinal axis located in the plane A-A. Movements of the differential casing about such axis may be damped by the arrangement shown in Fig. 5, wherein the casing in provided with a tongue 37 which moves between two compression springs 38, 39 mounted on the frame crossmember 20.
