Abstract

735,340. Endless conveyers. STEINKOPF, W: Dec. 12, 1952 [Dec. 15, 1951; March 13, 1952; April 1, 1952; June 13, 1952], No. 31604/52. Class 78 (1). An endless conveyer comprises a series of plates 12, 13, Fig. 3, carried on supports 3, Fig. 1, extending between transverse shafts 1 carried by an endless chain 8, each end of each support being arranged between convex surfaces 5 on the respective shaft for lateral swinging of the support with respect to the shaft and being also adapted for longitudinal displacement relative to the shafts. Preferably, the longitudinal displacement is effected by slotting the end holes in the supports 3 for receiving the axles. Guide-members 9 on the axles co-operate with a guide-rib formed on the track (not shown) for supporting rollers 2 on the ends of the axles. The supports each comprise three parts hinged together for movement of their hinge points 7 only upwards relative to the aligned position, whereby a firm surface is provided for the conveyer plates which are placed one on each part of the supports 3. The plates may be interconnected by concertina members 14, Fig. 3, for negotiating curves. In an alternative form the pairs of supports between each pair of adjacent axles may be arranged convergingly. In a further form, Fig. 5, the supports 25 may be rigidly attached to one of the adjacent axles 23 and have a slotted connection with the other at 27, the axles 23 being of oval cross-section. Further flexibility is obtained by having a loose pin-and-slot connection between the parts of the supports so that these may swing also in the plane of the band. The supports 25 may also be telescopic. Lateral guiding is effected by rollers 28 on vertical axles secured to the conveyer plates and engaging a vertical portion of the supporting track for the rollers 2. Thus discharge can be effected by guiding the band from horizontal to vertical disposition and twisting it back after discharge.
