Abstract
734,975. Coiling helically jointed tubes. TITEFLEX, Inc. May 7, 1953, No. 12801/53. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). Apparatus for opening up clearance between successive convolutions of a helically corrugated tube which has been axially compressed to bring the tops of the corrugations into substantial contact with one another comprises a support on which the tube is rotatable about its longitudinal axis, and a roller, positioned adjacent said support and held against axial movement, having a plurality of fins adapted to contact the tube and extend into the helical corrugations to force progressively the successive convolutions of the corrugation apart and advance the tube axially as the tube rotates. Axially compressed helically coiled and corrugated tubing 10 passes through a guideway 20 to two rotated smooth supporting rollers 32, 33. A third roller 31, rotated in the same direction as the rollers 32, 33, has fins 39 which project into successive corrugations of the tubing to separate these corrugations and, due to the rotation of the tubing by the rollers, to advance it axially. The rollers 32, 33 may also be finned.
