Abstract
734,704. Centrifugal pumps; hydraulic turbines. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Dec. 11, 1953 [Dec. 19, 1952], No. 32191/52. Classes 110 (1) and 110 (3). A reinforced concrete spiral casing for a hydraulic turbine or pump has steel stay vanes attached to it by anchor bars welded to the perimeter of the stay vanes and spread fanwise into the concrete. The turbine pit 1 has a steel liner 4 with longitudinal and circumferential flanges by which it is anchored in the concrete block 8. Tubular steel stay vanes 5 are provided at the throat 2 of the spiral inlet duct 3. The vanes are closed at their ends by plates 6. Square anchor bars 7 are welded to the outer perimeter of the end of the stay vanes and spread out fanwise into the concrete block 8. Loops 9 are welded to the outside faces of the bars 7 to prevent them spreading. T-irons 10 are welded to the plates 6 and further anchor bars 11 welded to their webs; The anchor bars 7, 11 and loops 9 may be 'connected, to the reinforcement of the block 8.
