Abstract

734,529. Carburetters. WIEGEL, P. H. Nov. 14, 1952 [Nov. 15, 1951]. No. 28837/52. Class 7(3). In a carburetter for a motor cycle or for the auxiliary engine of a bicycle, the jet is located in a recess in the induction pipe and the manually operable control slide is formed with a bore one end of which is in alignment with the jet the arrangement being such that when the control slide is moved past its normally closed position it will enter the recess so as to prevent the flow of fuel directly into the induction pipe and to constrain it to flow into the bore in the slide means being provided when the slide is in this position to permit a restricted flow of air through the bore or across the end thereof remote from the jet to produce a rich fuel air mixture for starting the engine. In Fig. 1 in the closed position of the throttle valve 2 mixture for cold starting is obtained by means of passages 8, 9, 10 in the valve which co-operate with the fuel jet 6. Fig 2 shows a modification in which the throttle valve is provided with a bore 12 and is bevelled at its upper part 17. The passage provided by the bevelled part is slightly narrower at the outer side. The upper part of the slide may be recessed. Fig. 3 shows how an existing carburetter can be converted by providing a vertical bore and an oblique saw cut. In a modification of Fig. 3 the upper part of the throttle valve instead of being bevelled is cut away on its opposite sides adjacent the air inlet and mixture outlet. In another modification a horizontal bore with an orifice therein is provided in the upper part of the throttle valve. The orifice can be changed to make the carburetter suitable for different engines. The throttle control lever co-operates with a second lever. Thus in one position ofthe second lever the throttle valve can move past its normally closed position into a position for cold starting but during normal running the second lever is shifted into a position in which the throttle valve cannot be moved into a position in which too rich a mixture is supplied.
