Abstract
732,418. Coking process and apparatus. DIDIER-WERKE AKT.-GES. June 30, 1953 [Aug. 22, 1952], No. 18069/53. Class 55 (1). In a method of operating a static-vertical retort a pad of granular non-caking coal or coke is introduced into the top of the main charge of coal at the start of or sufficiently early in the carbonization period so that before the main charge is dropped to allow a succeeding main charge to be introduced into the retort there is formed on top of the coked charge a pad of loose coke having substantially the same temperature as the top of the coked charge on which it rests. The pad is preferably introduced by means of hoppers 5 with elongated necks 6 and having a capacity equal to the desired volume of the pad.
