731,894. Sterillzing apparatus. ALPURA AKT.-GES. Aug. 4, 1953 [Aug. 22, 1952], No. 21505/53. Class 49. In apparatus for sterilizing liquids by the method involving conducting the liquid through a channel and introducing a heat carrier in gaseous form through apertures in the walls of the channel, the channel has opposite walls which are flat and parallel and are provided with inlets for the heat carrier. In the apparatus of Figs. 1, 2 and 3 there is an approximately rectangular channel 1 in two wall parts 4 and 5 secured by screws 17. The channel is bounded by parallel, flat wider sides 18 and 19 and parallel flat narrower sides 20 and 21. The liquid is pumped through the channel from inlet 2 to outlet 3. Steam admitted by a pipe 14 under pressure into the space 9 of a cylindrical jacket 8 enters the liquid through longitudinal slots 16 in the narrower sides and through round holes 15 in the wider sides, these holes 15 being disposed in transverse rows, and the rows of holes in the opposite walls 4 and 5 being in staggered relationship. In employing the apparatus for sterilizing milk, the milk, preheated to 100‹C., is passed under pressure into the channel, is there heated quickly by the introduced steam to at least 140 ‹C., and is immediately thereafter cooled by being subjected to a rapid drop in pressure.
