In a pen of the kind having a small ink reservoir 1 tapering to a fine writing tube 4, and a cap 5 closing the reservoir, there is provided for cleaning the tube, a spring-raised plunger aligned with the tube and slidably mounted in a bore in the cap so as to pass through the tube and project from the end when the head 14 is pushed down. The plunger consists of a tube 12 passing through the cap and a wire 15 retained in the tube by flattening it at 16. This flattening prevents the plunger leaving the bore in the cap. A vent opening 17 in the reservoir wall is adapted to be closed when the pen is out of use by the clip 6 by means of which the pen is attached to an L-shaped bracket 8, 9 on the holder 7. When not in use the pen is turned into alignment with the holder and pushed along the slot in the arm 9 so that the writing tube is received in a recess 11 in the end of the holder. The tapered part 2 of the holder closes the recess to prevent the ink in the tube drying up. For fine writing tubes needing a fine wire 15 the arrangement is modified as shown in Fig. 2 to avoid a shoulder at the inner end of the tube.
