The plant comprises a series arrangement of a compressor 6, an axial flow turbine 1 including a plurality of overhung wheels driving the compressor on one side, a similar trubine 2 driving the compressor on its other side, and an effective output turbine 3. Turbines 2 and 3 are similar and have a common housing. A combustion chamber 12, a reheating chamber 13 and a heat exchanger 11 are provided.
