Abstract

729,733. Anti-glare screens. LIBBEYOVENS-FORD GLASS CO. July 31, 1950 [July 30, 1949], No. 19023/50. Drawings to to Specification. Class 97 (1). [Also in Group XXXII] A method of treating a plastic sheet so that, when laminated as an interlayer between sheets of bent glass that have their principal curvature in the horizontal plane and an outline that is curved at the top and bottom and has diverging sides and mounted at an angle to the vertical as part of a windshield in an automobile, the plastic sheet will exhibit a coloured area having a cut-off line that appears straight and horizontal to the driver and occupants of the automobile, includes the steps of colouring a marginal portion of a flat plastic sheet and then distorting the sheet to a form in which the two opposite longitudinal edges of the coloured portion of the sheet are curved in the same direction. The flat plastic sheet is preferably dyed by means of the method and apparatus disclosed in Specification 729,755, [Group IV (c)], and is then mounted on a shaping frame as disclosed in Specification 729,756, [Group V]. When the sheet has been given the required shape, it is heated and subsequently cooled while being maintained by said frame in its new shape.
