Abstract

A soil insecticide consists of a solid composition containing an absorbent organic food, an insecticide and an attractant consisting of aniseed oil, mustard oil, allyl thiocarbimide, or a mixture of two or more of these attractants, or one or more of these attractants in combination with another attractant. Foods specified are woodflour, "thirds" (low-grade flour), bran, gelatine, bone flour and dried blood. Insecticides specified are benzene hexachloride, D.D.T., rotenone, toxaphene and chlordane. Other ingredients specified are: bentonite, vermiculite, superphosphate, ammonium sulphate, peat, gum karaya and gum tragacanth. The composition may be converted into an aqueous dispersion, paste or jelly. The paste or jelly may be stored in tins, rusting being prevented by the addition of a small quantity of alkali to raise the pH above 7.
