Abstract

729,294. Fluid bearings. ROULEMENTS A BILLES MINATURES SOC. ANON. Dec. 14, 1953 [Dec. 20, 1952], No. 34722/53. Class 12 (1). In a bearing in which fluid is fed under pressure between opposed bearing surfaces 2, 4, the member 2 is made by rolling, bending, pressing or moulding relatively thin material and is provided with a plurality of nozzles 7 through which the fluid passes to the bearing surfaces. The member 2 in the shape of a spherical segment is secured at its edge to a fixed member 1, and the space 6 behind the member 2 is fed with fluid under pressure through a bore 5. The member 4 is secured at its edge to a movable member 3. In a modification, nozzles 27, Fig. 3, disposed in plugs 28 in a member 22 are fed with fluid under pressure through a bore in a movable member 23 to which the member 22 is secured. A shaft to which the movable members are attached may pass with clearance through the fixed members. The co-operating bearing members may be conical. In another modification, a cylindrical member 42, Fig. 5, is provided with several circumferential rows of nozzles 7 and is mounted on a spindle 43. Fluid is supplied under pressure through the bore 47 of the spindle 43 and radial holes 46. The member 42 may alternatively be mounted on the fixed member. The fluid may be air.
