[Also in Group XIII] In the continuous gasification of solid carbonaceous materials in which oxygen or air or both together with steam or carbon dioxide or both are employed the fuel gases produced impart their heat to an intermediate medium, e.g. water or mercury, in one exchanger, and the gasifying agent is heated by this medium in another. Water-gas from a run-off producer 1 enters a heat exchanger 3 at 600‹-650‹ C., vaporizing mercury in a tube system 9, 10 for emission of the imparted heat to a mixture of oxygen, air and steam in a heat exchanger 4, a part of this mixture being recirculated by a pump 5 to avoid corrosion in the exchanger. The gases pass at e.g. 300‹-400‹ C. to the producer through a pipe 11. A saturator 6 through which the oxygen-air mixture enters the circuit is supplied with hot water from a heat exchanger 14 fed by a pump 13 with fresh water from an inlet 12 and excess from the saturator. Exchanger 14 is supplied with heating water from another heat exchanger 15 in which the heat of synthesis gases coming from a reaction chamber is absorbed.
