Abstract

727,263. Dividing by fusion. BRITISH OXYGEN CO., Ltd. Sept. 25, 1953 [July 2, 1952], No.. 16690/52. Class 83 (4). In an oxygen cutting-machine for preparing plate edges prior to welding &c. each cutting nozzle.in a group of nozzles arranged to cut a single plate edge may rise and fall independently of the other nozzles in the group in accordance with undulations in the plate being cut. Each nozzle may have its own running wheel so that' it may move vertically in a common mounting for the group and the mounting may or may not be vertically movable. In an embodiment, a nozzle 13, Fig. 4, is fixed in a bore 12 in a body part 10 which floats vertically in a cutting- machine carriage by means of a column 11. The wheel 14 on a rod 17 is fixed to the nozzle 13. Two body-parts 23, 24, Fig. 1, are pivoted by links 25, 26 to the part 10 and each carries a cutting nozzle supported on a wheel, to cut the opposed bevels on the plate. These nozzles are angularly adjustable and may be moved transversely of the body 10 by rack-andpinion means operated by hand wheels 54, 55. Shields 20, 33, 34 are provided for the wheels and nipples as at 22 in Fig. 4 are provided for directing cooling air jets on to the wheels.
