The edge of a filing folder 1 is secured to a suspension rail 2 by clamping the edge between the limbs 2a, 2b of an inverted U-shaped rail and bending the rail closely over on itself about a line intermediate between the top and bottom edges of the rail and parallel thereto so that the folder edge is also bent closely over on itself while clamped between the limbs of the rail. Notches 5 in each limb 2a, 2b at each end are stamped out with the rail 2 in the flat form, the metal then being bent over on its central line and clamped to the folder edge and folded over on a line slightly above the half-way line to leave a recess 7 for engagement by a rider or tab. In the final form, the parts of the limb 2b may be touching or separated by a small space 6. A tab 4 for sliding engagement with the rail may be stamped out from a sheet of metal and folded over as shown to leave a space 18 for an index slip, the blank being formed with a window 8 and an aperture 15, a number of small slots 9 in a depressed channel 10 and an equal number of tongues 11 in a depressed channel 12, the tongues 11 being passed through the slots 9 to secure the tab. As shown in Fig. 12, the lower front edge 13 may be turned slightly under at 14a to engage the recess 7 of the rail 2, or with a tongue 14b or the lower edge may be turned upwardly to engage in the small space 6. In each case the rear lower edge 16 is engaged behind the rail 2. As shown in Fig. 13, the rail 2 has the limb 2b extended and turned upwardly at 19 to form a partially enclosed recess 22 and the lower edges of the tab 4 are both extended, turned inwardly and the extension 20 of edge 13 turned downwardly and then upwardly and the extension 21 of edge 16 turned upwardly and then downwardly and the two extensions 20, 21 gripping the interior surfaces of the recess 22. The tabs and rail are made from rustless metal or alloy and the tabs may be distinctively coloured.
