726,450. Cylinders. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. March 27, 1953 [April 16, 1952], No. 8485/53. Class 7 (2). The gap 19 of a sparking plug is located substantially at the centre of a substantially hemispherical and symmetrically located piston top depression 33, overhead inlet and exhaust valves 14, 16 respectively being disposed between the plug 13 and the outer edge of the piston and having annular clearance spaces 138 around their seats deeper than the rest of an annular and otherwise uniformly deep clearance space 36 around the depression 33. The plug 13 may be set back in a recess 238 or may be in a cylinder head undersurface flat apart from the clearances 138. The engine bore may exceed its stroke in the ratio of 16 to 9.
