726,404. Removing bark. WENNBERG, O. C. G. Sept. 28,1953,No. 26656/53. Class 145. A bark-peeling machine comprises a rotating drum 2, through which the log is conveyed by rollers 16, and scraping tools 10 which are keyed to shafts 8 pivoted on the web 6 of a drum driving wheel 3 and are pressed against the log by springs or counterweights, or by both such means, located on the opposite side of the web from the tools. The scraping edge 14 of the tools has an obtuse or rounded forward corner 28 and a sharp rear corner 29 and is increasingly bevelled towards the corner 29 so that it does not dig into the wood of the log. The tools also have arcuate tapered wings 18 that move them up the end face of the log as it is initially fed into the machine and also guide the peeled bark outwardly and against the log feeding direction into a fan housing 21 whence it is blown out through an outlet 23 by the air current created by the wings. A wall 24 on the driving wheel forms a continuation of the fan housing and may overlap inside it to improve the sealing. One or more disintegrating knives 20 may be fitted on each tool and are preferably spring-loaded.
