725,918. Linkwork. ETABLISSEMENTS DEPLIREX. Sept. 30, 1953 [Oct. 1, 1952], No. 26821/53. Class 80 (3) [Also in Group XXXII] Motion-converting mechanism employing endless connecting means such as a cable produces rectilinear movement of a driven member on rotation of a driving shaft, and is applicable to vehicles and other machines having an expandable structure, said mechanism comprising twin telescopic assemblies consisting of two fixed boxlike members A, B, Fig. 1, from which emerge in opposite directions members 2a, 2b respectively, each member 2a, 2b being clamped at one point to a respective cable 16, Fig. 2, which passes around guide pulleys on the fixed member A, B and is wound round a helical groove on one of two pulleys 19, keyed to a common driving shaft 1, each cable having its ends secured in holes in its respective pulley and one of the cables being crossed so that, on rotation of the shaft 1 (by hand or by motor), the members 2a, 2b are moved in opposite directions. Each of the members A, B is formed of two channels 4, 5 whose outer flanges are fixed to the flanges of a wide inverted channel 3. Each member 2a, 2b consists of an inverted channel, the outer end of which rides on rollers on a spindle 10 carried by the respective member A, B while the inner end is notched and carries a roller 11 which engages the under face of the channel 3. The mechanism is shown applied to a single-axle expandable trailer, Fig. 7, comprising a fixed central portion and two movable side sections carried by the members 2a, 2b of twin telescopic assemblies, there being one such twin assembly at each end of the trailer, and a common driving shaft 1. The box-like members of each assembly are secured to the underside of the floor 33 of the central portion, said floor being supported on the axle by two leaf springs. The wheels are covered by casings 34, the floors of the side sections having hinged panels 47 which are raised when these sections are contracted into the central portion.
