Abstract

725,260. Cooling dynamo-electric machines. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Sept. 3, 1953 [Sept. 4, 1952], No. 24409/53. Class 35. Rotor slots have inlet ducts reaching to the airgap from one side and outlet ducts reaching to the airgap from the other side and there are passates for gas or vapour from one side of the slot to the other through one or more conductors. In the form shown, each conductor may have three components 112a, 112b, 112c, Fig. 7, the latter being bent at intervals so that it leaves spaces for gas first on one side then on the other, while component 112a has ribs to enable gas utilizing the recesses 124, 125 cut in component 112b to travel axially of and transverse to the composite conductor, whereby after passage from the air gap by tooth ducts 215 into the spaces between the conductors and the slot insulation, then travel axially and transversely and return to the airgap by tooth ducts 216. In a modification in which conductors of plain rectangular section only are used, axial passage of gas, e.g. hydrogen, is between the sides of the conductors and the slot liners, transverse passage being made by apertures in the conductors, particularly those innermost in the slots.
