Abstract
725,040. Heating rollers by induction. ARDICHVILI, G. May 19, 1953 [June 4, 1952], No. 14090/53. Class 39 (3). Heated rotatable rollers of magnetizable material between which strip or sheet material is passed e.g. in making sheet or laminated plastic or rubber material or for drying paper, have auxiliary heating means at one or both ends comprising open cores carrying windings 18 producing an alternating magnetic flux extending into the roller. Thus a decrease of surface temperature at the ends of a roller 11 internally heated by steam or electric resistances is compensated by placing adjacent the ends a laminated U-shaped core with ends 16 having curved surfaces 17 concentric with and adjacent the roller. Induction coils 18 are placed on the limbs of the core, which is bolted at 20 to plates 21 sliding on rods 24 to adjust the core lengthwise of the roller. The distance of the core from the roller is adjusted by a nut 38 moving a threaded rod 43 on a support 35 on the machine. The number of turns in the coils 18 may also be varied to adjust the heating.
