Abstract
272,397. Johannesson, S. Nov. 12, 1926, [Convention date]. Blocks, special shapes of. -Reinforced or plain concrete blocks forming annular units for tunnel linings, are at least twice as long as they are wide and are fitted with metal tubes 14 extending parallel to the axis of the tunnel and arranged so that the adjacent rings of the completed tunnel will break joint. Steel dowel pins 17, notched at 19, 20 for engagement by bolts 18, are used, to connect adjacent rings of blocks together. To facilitate assembling, the projecting parts of the pins 17 are staggered so that the new block engages them in succession. The blocks are chamfered on their inner edges at 12 to assist in holding the inner lining comprising a metallic reinforcement 21 and a layer of cement mortar 11 blown on by pressure. Threaded tubes 22 at intervals serve to relieve water pressure on the exterior of the lining during the setting process, and also to grout the exterior of the blocks.
