[Also in Group XXVIII] A metal joint ring a of U-section is formed on the ends of the limbs of the U with outwardlyextending flanges b whose end faces are prepared so that, when 'the ring is compressed between the parts e to be sealed, they present parallel jointing faces of appreciable radial width to the co-operating surfaces of the parts e. The jointing faces of the ring are prepared whilst it is held in the position that it assumes in use.
