Abstract

724,258. Radiators for cooling fluids and for heating buildings. WINN, S. Dec. 29, 1953 [Dec. 29, 1952], 'No. 32864/52. Classes 64 (2) and 64 (3). In a radiator comprising flow tubes 3 interconnecting upper and lower headers 1, 2, the respective tube-carrying walls of the headers face in the same or in opposite directions and are provided with resilient members having holes therein for receiving and frictionally gripping the tube ends which are laterally directed with respect to the remainder of the tube and are parallel to each other. Individual tubes are thereby readily replaceable. In the form shown the headers 1, 2 comprise boxes each having an open side which is closed by a compound tube plate e.g. of the kind described in Specification 716,623 and comprising a resilient member 6 provided with holes to receive the tube ends, and bonded to a rigid member 5. Shoulders 7 are provided adjacent the ends of the tubes to limit the extent to which the tubes may be inserted in the headers. The provisional specification describes alternative means for securing together the resilient and rigid members of the compound tube plate. The invention is said to be applicable to radiators for cooling a fluid as in an internalcombustion engine cooling system or to radiators for heating the surrounding atmosphere.
