Class 80 (4) [Also in Group XXX] In a detent device applicable to a spring- returned hose reel wherein a pawl 11 secured to a gravity-loaded eccentrically-pivoted disc 15 co-operates with the slotted periphery of a plate 13 attached to the reel to lock it in a hoseextended position against the action of the return spring, as described in Specification 723,703, a blade spring 20, which operates a button 22 of a switch controlling a fluid pump supplying the hose, lies in the path of a pin 19 on the eccentric disc 15 so that when the hose is locked in the required extended position the button 22 is depressed to initiate a flow of fluid in the hose. When the hose is being paid out and the pawl successively enters the slots, the movement of disc 15 is insufficient to deflect the spring 20 to an extent to operate the button 22. When, however, the required length of hose has been pulled out and the hose is released while the pawl is in a slot, the spring loading on the reel causes a small anti-clockwise movement thereof, which, while locking the pawl in the slot further deflects the spring 20 and operates the button 22. The fluid flow is arrested by pulling on the hose, thereby releasing the pawl 11 and allowing the spring 20 to release the button 22 to cut off the fluid supply, whereafter the hose may be re-wound by its spring, the projections 23 successively knocking the pawl clear of the slots as described in Specification 723,703. The switch may be replaced by a mercury switch, or by mechanical means such as a cock in the fluid system.
