Class 80 (4) [Also in Group XXX] A detent mechanism for locking a member against a bias, such as for locking in a hoseextended position a spring-returned hose reel, is automatically ineffective when the bias is allowed to operate at speed, i.e. when the hose is being re-wound by its return spring drum. In the hose reel shown, the inner end of the hose communicates with the hollow spindle on which it rotates so as to receive the fluid to be dispensed. The mechanism comprises a plate 17 concentrically secured to the reel and having a number of non- radial slots 18 which co-operate with a pawl 31 which is fixed on a disc 30 eccentrically pivoted at 27 so that the pawl is gravity-biased to ride on the periphery of the plate 17, with the result that when the required amount of hose has been paid out, the pawl enters a slot 18 to lock the reel against the action of the spring drum, Fig. 2 (not shown). Adjacent each slot 18. is a rounded projection 25 formed on the plate 17. When the hose is to be re-wound, it is pulled against the spring bias to withdraw the pawl from its slot and is then released, whereupon the spring drum rotates the reel and the projections 25 successively knock the pawl clear of the slots, the inertia of the disc 30 being such that at each knock the slot has passed before the pawl returns. The plate 17 has a number of holes 34 so that it may be bolted to the reel in various positions. Similarly, the disc 30 has a number of holes whereby the pawl 31 may be secured thereto. A stop 33 on the disc 30 co-operates with the plate 17 to prevent the disc rotating beyond a dead centre position.
