Abstract

Particulate thermoplastic synthetic resin compositions containing absorbed plasticizer are made by spreading a paste of the finely divided resin and a plasticizer as a thin layer on a support, e.g. an endless steel belt, heating the paste, e.g. by infra-red radiation, without agitation to effect absorption of the plasticizer by the resin and to convert the paste into a friable solid sheet and disintegrating the sheet. The compositions may include pigments and fillers which may be added prior to heating. The resin may be polyvinyl chloride and copolymers of vinyl chloride with vinyl acetate and/or vinylidene chloride. The plasticizer may be tricresyl phosphate or dibutyl phthalate. The compositions may be used for making moulded articles by heating at 150 DEG to 180 DEG C. under pressure or for making sheet material by spreading the composition on a movable support, passing the support between calendar rolls at a temperature of 150 DEG to 180 DEG C. and separating if desired the sheet from the support.
