Class 80 (2) Epicyclic gearing automatically varying in ratio according to the sense of drive, between the shaft 4 of a combined electric generator and starter motor and a shaft 17 geared to the shaft 1 of an internal combustion engine, comprises a sun wheel 10 fixed to shaft 4, a planet carrier 15 fixed to shaft 17, a one-way roller detent 27 between a gear annulus 24 and a ring 28 fixed to the casing 8, and a one-way roller clutch 23 between the carrier and shaft 4.
