Abstract

723,430. Heat-exchange elements. ROVER CO., Ltd. Oct. 23, 1952. [Nov. 23, 1951] No. 27506/51. Class 64 (3). [Also in Group XXII] A tube, particularly for use in a gas turbine heat-exchanger, is formed by uniting, e.g. by copper-brazing, a pair of thin metal strips and a pair of longitudinal spacers b, c, the strips having transverse corrugations a, the troughs thus formed at one side of each strip being closed at their ends where they are to be united to the spacers. The trough ends are closed by pinching, then welding or brazing. The corrugations form fluid passages between adjacent tubes by contiguity of the crests. The spacers may be solid rod, channel strip b or tubing c. Cooling air may flow through the tubes and, from the same or a different source, through the tubing c which is located at the entrance ends of the hot gas passages between the tubes. The Provisional Specification describes also flattening of the ends of the strips before attachment to the spacers, to form inlet and outlet necks.
