Abstract
349,234. Concentric tubular heat exchangers. HOLDEN & BROOKE, Ltd. and BROOKE, R. W., Sirius Works, West Gorton, Manchester. April 11, 1930, No. 11497. [Class 64 (iii).] In heat exchangers comprising concentric tubes 1, 9 with partitions in the annular space between the tubes to cause the fluid in the outer body to follow a helical or tortuous path between inlet 2 and outlet 3, the partitions consist of gapped annular ribs 10 cast on tube 9, the gap in one rib being angularly displaced in relation to the gap in the next rib, and longitudinal ribs 12 are provided to direct the course of the fluid between the annular ribs. Tube 9 is fitted with internal ribs 16 arranged to vary the surface exposed to the inner fluid at different points along the length of the tube. A number of these tubular elements may be assembled together, the inner members being connected in series, and the outer members being in parallel between headers.
