Abstract

723,217. Forced-flow steam boilers. LA MONT INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION, Ltd., and PLUMMER,G. A. June 27, 1952. [July 26, 1951] No. 17727/51. Class 123 (2). A waste-heat forced-flow vertical steam boiler comprises two or more nests 2, 3, 4, Fig. 1, of spirally-wound tubes 1, Fig. 2, each tube 1 being connected at its ends, respectively, to a water distributing header 5 and a steam-collecting header 6, these headers extending the full height of the boiler and serving to support the boiler casing plates 7, 8 and also cross beams 9 upon which the tube nests are supported. Vibration of the tubes of a nest is prevented by clamping studs 10, Fig. 3, which depend through the beam 9 above the nest into pressure contact with a loose cross beam 11 disposed upon said nest. Flat iron spacers 13 may be disposed between adjacent coils ; alternatively each coil may be wound as in Fig. 9 so as to form three radial spacers in a plane immediately above. In one of other modifications the clamping studs 10 are mounted in brackets welded to the headers 5, 6. The arrangement is such that by releasing the appropriate studs 10 the tubes of a nest above a damaged tube may be lifted to facilitate withdrawal and replacement of the latter. Fig. 12 shows a boiler in which the tube nests are separated by axially-movable beams 36 and pressure is applied to the tubes by a beam 30 adjustable by nuts 34 on rods 31 which are integral with the beam 30 and pass through brackets 33 fixed to the boiler outlet casing. This construction permits a tube to be removed by raising the beam 30 after a wire rope has been looped around this beam and the tubes above said tube.
