Abstract

962,011. Heat exchanger tube supports; vertical steam boilers. FOSTER WHEELER Ltd. Jan. 23, 1963 [Oct. 23, 1961], No. 37971/61. Headings F4A and F4S. Heat-exchanger tubes are supported in at least two positions, spaced apart in the direction of the length of the tubes by bars 16, 16a which are so disposed that each tube is gripped frictionally between at least one pair of locating members, and these engage opposite sides of a row of tubes at positions spaced apart along the length of the tube. In the form shown, the tubes are heating tubes in a steam generator, the bars being formed with recesses to receive the tubes and being spaced along the length of the tubes by I-beams 20. The ends of the bars are welded to a baffle plate 14 (Fig. 1, not shown), which surrounds the tubes. A space formed between the baffle and the shell defines a downcomer, and the space within the baffle forms a riser for the steam and water produced by the tubes.
